Is it time to update your SEO strategy yet?
What about now?
No?
How about now?
Still no?
Well, what about now?

How often should I update my SEO strategy?

This is fairly straight forward. You see, Search Engine Optimization is a slow roll and takes time to reach its full effect. For this reason, you’ll hear myself and all their professionals say, “you should wait six months to judge whether something is effective or not”.

Now, sometimes you’ll see some effects start to roll in around the Month 3 or 4 mark, and you can start to judge whether your work is efficacious at that point. That said, it’s still a good idea not to pull the trigger on any big changes quite yet. You see, sometimes it just takes a little bit more time that that for things to start moving. Ho much longer? Set a reminder to check your strategy at the 6-month mark.

Judge whether it has efficacy. Judge whether it’s getting you the traffic you want, the clicks you want, and more than anything else the sales that you want. If the answer is yes, that’s awesome. Move on to another thing.

And if the answer is no, start by taking a look at the content. Can it be improved in any way? Can it be added to in any way? You may also determine that you’d benefit from starting over from scratch, and that’s okay. Don’t be married to a bad practice. If it’s not working, it’s not working. Move on.

Recap

  • An SEO strategy needs time to get up and running before it will provide you with valuable insights.
  • Start to monitor your results after 3 months, but don’t make any changes.
  • Wait until the 6 month mark and if needed, you’ll be able to make informed adjustments to better achieve your goals.
