Increasing your blog traffic can be a difficult task, just throwing some content up on your site no matter how good the content is, isn’t going to cut it. If you are struggling to build a decent readership you might be over looking these easy to follow guidelines that will help you make a better blog.
You have to market your posts – Social media marketing is a very powerful tool and if you aren’t harnessing it you are missing out on one of the best ways to build your readership. Social media can give you the opportunity to put your posts in front of hundreds of thousands of new readers every day. Link to your blog posts daily on all of your social media platforms, and if you aren’t on one of the major ones (Facebook, Google Plus, or Twitter) make sure you sign up right away.
Stop being inconsistent – Readers want some level of predictability when it comes to blogs. If you have a daily blog that’s great but make sure you keep up with it. If you blog every day and then suddenly you stop for a week or two you will lose readers. Figure out what works for your schedule and stick to it, if you want to build a successful blog you’re in it for the long haul so get comfortable.
Post valuable and interesting content – It seems like this should be an obvious statement but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stumbled across blogs that completely ignore this rule. People want to learn something new when they read your blog, or at least get a new perspective on something. Writing about your life, or in a business environment writing about nothing but your own company, may make readers feel connected but you can’t lean on that for the bulk of your posts. You need to find topics that are interesting or even controversial to keep readers coming back for more.
Start reading and interacting with other blogs – This is the fastest way to gain new readers, establish a presence in the community by regularly commenting on posts and interacting through social media. Establish yourself as another authority in your given field and people who read those blogs will come check out yours as well.
Use SEO tactics to rank better – Figuring out SEO is not a breeze, doing it correctly and getting results can be difficult to do on your own. But the payoff on using good SEO in your blog can be huge when it comes to getting traffic to your site. Make sure you use keywords that you want to rank for in your writing and emphasize them by linking them or bolding the text. Also take the time to write a description of each post and fill out the <title> tag with relevant keywords. These are just a few things you can do to help rank better but there is much, much more to it.
